About livingrooms

livingrooms is a project aimed to create dynamic social spaces, reusing cast away objects and furniture to transform existing public space.  I will be setting up ‘livingrooms’ in park throughout Sydney, reconfiguring other peoples junk into functional and inventive spaces in the city.  This blog will document the path of research and the creative process of the livingrooms project. I will be making a visual documentation of each item as I find it, as well as an ongoing documentation of the livingrooms in action.

Itried writing soemthing in this box a couple of days ago and not sure if it went through so trying again. My son died last year on 1 August 2007. In April 2008 I had a dream with him in it about him finding some gum boots in a back lane that he loved but they were too big for him but he didnt care. Two days later I woke up early thinking constantly about the significance of the dream and the gumboots. Did I think he was too big for his boots? Could he fill his boots etc. I was very upset – and then he seemed to say to me ” take Millie(his dog) for a walk to the park and I will show you something that will make you feel better”. So I got up at 7am and went to the St Stephens park and there was the installation of the bedroom. He knew I loved installation art so I thought that must be it – then I looked more carefully and the livingrooms booklet said there were gumboots in the bedroom. I couldnt find them though and then a woman came up to me about 7.30am and said ” isnt it grreat in our park having this – but someone took the gumboots yesterday!!!. It felt really weird and too much of a cooincidence. I am very keen to get in touch with the people involved in this living rooms project – just to talk more with you about it and about my dream experience and him telling me to go there, Please contact me, Thank you, Chris Sylva.
